• Ideal Writing Space – my dream

My ideal writing space is that of a quiet office with the color not being too dark or too light. Perhaps a lavender in color for the walls.  Lavender invokes softness and relaxation, allowing the mind to roam in thought.  Soft lighting throughout the room. Lamp on my desk that is bright enough to view my work. A desk with a chair that is comfortable to allow longer writing time. The more comfortable I am, the more writing I can do! The room would have a oak colored bookshelf or two filled with books from my favorite authors, reference books, and more.  I would also have room for a vase or two filled with my favorite flowers.  My desk will have ample room for my computer and to spread my notes out for quick glancing as I write. My drawers will be completely organized with the tools necessary to get the job done.  I would have a recliner or loveseat in the room for reading.  A blanket would be draped on it.  A small table beside it for a lamp and a burning candle.  There would be a window to view the landscape of the mountains that are beyond the yard.  The yard would have beautiful trees and flowers. Perhaps even a swing.  Perfect view at any time during the year!  Some would say that music helps with the words flowing from thought to paper. My space will have a radio to play music if I choose to. While I would be alone with my writing, I wouldn’t be physically alone. My two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels would be lying by my side or in a dog bed in the room for their comfort.

  • Prompts?  What is it?  Prompts is a way for writer’s to get out of the writing slump; to get their creative juices flowing.  I just started using prompts to get my thoughts flowing again.  I got myself a notebook that I record my topic ideas in along with the prompts I have used.  As artists who paint or take photos, subject ideas can be at a stand still.  A blank canvas waiting to be filled with vibrant colors.  A camera waiting to capture that special photo.  Writing is no different.  A blank page in a journal or on a computer screen can be daunting.  “What do I write about today?”

    Blank Journal Page

Prompts sure do help!   I enjoy the challenges that prompts give me to keep going.  Just a mere 20 minutes a day, I am developing a habit of writing.  With my notebook, I am staying organized in my thoughts and ideas.  I have a book filled with prompts that I can refer to when I feel too dry to write.  You may see a prompt and my piece that follows it here in this blog!

  • What is your favorite genre of music?

Music?  While I enjoy most music, I do have two favorites!  Country from the 80s and 90s.  Artists that wrote and sang their own songs.  One, in particular, is famous for his songwriting ability.  He wrote about the stages of his life.  The beginnings, the journey, and where he is today.  That artist is Alan Jackson.  He wrote songs that are relatable.  He wrote songs that made you feel.  He wrote songs that made you want to have fun for he was having fun performing them!  There are many great artists out there but he is my favorite!  Other favorite genre is the music from the 70s.  Those artists and songs were great music!  Songs to enjoy when cruising the open road!  Songs to enjoy while relaxing on the beach.  Songs to enjoy when out on a date.  Slow songs.  Songs that are upbeat.  Songs for dancing.  Electric music.  Vinyl records galore!  33s and 45s.  No one particular artist is a favorite for I loved all the songs from that time period!  In my humble opinion, the 70s was the best decade ever and the music just accentuates the lifestyle of the 70s.

  • For me, with age, comes the wisdom. Wisdom I wished I had in my younger days. Decisions that I made would or could have had a different outcome. “If only, I did this.” Or, “If I chose that, the circumstances or end result would be different.” However, in doing so, we are always looking back. We need to look ahead to whatever life has in store for us. When one shares their wisdom with younger folks, their immediate response tends to be that we don’t know what we’re talking about. They deny themselves the opportunity to understand how the wisdom you gained can be beneficial to them. Another thing that gets better with age is the ability to appreciate the simple things. The smell of flowers. The scent of fresh baked bread. Enjoying the sunrise with a cup of coffee. A day trip to see beautiful landscapes and appreciate it’s beauty. Not slowing down but to take the few moments to appreciate even the simplest things in life. These things we often take advantage of when we were younger, When we do, it is then that we age gracefully rather than regret.

  • Join My Writing Journey: The Power of Blogging

To blog or not to blog? For me, that is the question. I love to write! I currently do my writing by journaling, prompt writing, and working on the beginnings of a novel. I thought that blogging would be a great way to share my musings from the quill, or better yet, musings by the keyboard. Join me on my writing journey! I welcome your thoughts to my writing pieces. Who knows? Maybe my creative writing will inspire you to try your hand at writing!
